Minutes of August 2000 Populace Meeting
August 22, 2000
Lady Deborah called the Populace meeting to order at 7:30pm, 17 members present.
Officers's reports
- Chatelaine: has had four contacts in two weeks, and has responded.
- Herald: Has had two rejected, and Donna's device and name have passed
completely.
- Exchequer: We have money, and the rummage sale brought in a nice bit,
but we will have no overage when we pay for the next event.
- Minister of Arts and Sciences: September 12th is Reconstruction at
Phillip's. Contact Toby for details. Toby will soon be conducting a brewing class for
beginners, also at Phillip's. At Handcrafters there will be a meeting of the Isenfir Corp
of Engineers to discuss construction of Pennsic things. Our Minister says she will soon
post an e-mail asking what people would like to do at Handcrafters and how.
- Chronicler: Isenfarings will be out soon.
- Marshals: General fighting practice will resume in Sept at Phillip's.
He has four more events to become a knight marshal. Toby has one event to go to become
archery marshal. Rapier is on Tuesday nights from 6:00 on at McIntyre Park at the second
shelter. Weeks when Populace is scheduled it will be on Wednesday. Victoria Dye has
assumed the oversight of this activity from Leofric. Victoria will check for us on the
possibility of our having a MOL before our event.
- Fiber Arts: Anne has posted a schedule on the Isenet.
- Music: Anne says we will be shifting practice time and place.
- Dance: We will be at the Municipal Arts Building for the foreseeable
future except on October 19th (Camp Albemarle), December 6th (SAB), and January 18th.
Bryan suggests a Nothing But Dance event late winter at the MAB. Renting the entire
building would be $500, and we would not do a feast. This would truly be nothing but
dance. He also reports there may be a dance event in Fredericksburg this winter. As usual
he requests suggestions as to what to do at dance.
- Red Mountain Inn: The company we ordered pewter from lost the order.
New order should arrive in a week.
- Polyphony: Will continue under Njal's patient tutoring, to attempt to
learn something to sing. More singers would be very, very welcome.
Pennsic news: Our Seneschal is now a Lady, though we've always known
that. A loud vivat to Lady Deborah the Cynical. She wishes to thank John and Toby for
making the Isenfir camp a resounding success, mentioning something about hot water.
Allistair reports there were literally hundreds of classes available. The Shire voted to
make the expenditure of $100 for a year's storage of the Pennsic gear at the site. We
don't have a huge amount--though considerable, I am told--but that
money covers all we can cram into as large a trailer as we can get there. Vote
affirmative.
New/Old Business
- Gavin is going to coordinate the demo at the Student Activities Fair. We will set a date
for the Triangle demo after he has nailed down the details of the SAF.
- Silver Anniversary Event, Oct 28th, 29th . The binder is paid on Camp Holiday Trails.
Autocrat (Trishka) will soon post a list of thing having to be done and a request for
volunteers. Tankard and Victoria have volunteered to plan and run the rapier
competition--if we can get a List Minister. Keep your fingers crossed.
- Period Evening, Nov 18th, 1595. This is the day after the anniversary of our good Queen
Bess's accession. We will celebrate. Invitations will be sent in the next month, but until
then Bryan wishes to emphasize that all are welcome. If you don't have Elizabethan garb,
wear what you have from an earlier period. This will be in keeping with the nature of the
celebration. The Elizabethans liked costume parties, too.
- A Games Tourney is being considered for sometime in the spring.
- If there is any interest in going to the Maryland Ren Fair -- in October, I think--, let
Debbie Jo know.
- Busch Gardens. Rhuadhan has suggested a group trip there this fall.
