Minutes of March 2001 Populace Meeting
March 27, 2001

We met at Parker & DeStefano in the conference room. About 15 people in attendance.

Officers' Reports

  • Seneschale - reports she has started the paper work to get our new Minister of Arts and Sciences and Deputy warranted. Also has sent the paperwork for Toby's warrent as Castellan.
  • Chronicler - absent.
  • Herald - absent.
  • Exchequer - looked under the mattress before meeting and says we have funds. Also when he files this quarterly report the hard copy Isenfarings will be no more.
  • Castallan - reports Wayne held a leather workshop in Waynesboro March 24th and it was well attended. Wayne plans something of this sort once a month. We will be holding our usual "provide local color" demo at Spotswood Elementary in Harrisonburg again this year on the 26th of April. We plan a demo for C'ville Catholic School May 12th at the Omni. This is an evening demo, 6-8 p.m., so most of us should be able to attend. We will provide static and active displays, rapier, dance and anything folks could get involved in.
  • Minister of Arts and Sciences (MoAS) - our new MoAS, Anne Westbrook, with Christine Cooper as Deputy, reports the bobbin lace class finished, with good success. See her schedule for activities to come. She notes there is a display of New Skills, i.e. something you have just learned, at Coronation. If you have something you wish to display and can't get to Coronation, contact Anne.
  • Polyphony - Njal, reports our chorus of altos is doing well, and may actually soon sound musical. Anne has asked him to organize an instrumental group, which will be forming sometime this summer.
  • Minister of Minors (MoM) - Karen has sent in her letter of intent.
  • Dance Master Extraordinare - reports dance goes well, but still wishes more folk to attend. After all, we are a dancing Shire; most of us should be able to dance. Next week is practice for Coronation and practice of the Dance and Tune the Shire is giving our new Queen. We
hope to do a short dance performance June 20th for the C'ville Council of the Arts if we can be assured of enough dancers. That's a Wednesday, but we don't know if day or evening. Also, the Known World Dance Symposium is June 8-12th, in Boston, and David and possibly others will be attending.
  • Defacto Heavy Weapons Marshal - Phillip reports our informal gatherings on Sundays at his place have resumed.

Old Business

  • We have been requested and agreed to take the RMI to Caer Gelin for their Spring Revel April 28th.
  • We have set a date for the Yard Sale. It will be at Rosecroft - David and Karen's - the 23rd of June.
  • We have yet to find a site for the Games Tourney. We will decide when when we have ascertained what dates are available at several sites. Camp Albemarle is booked full all summer.
  • Dosso and Dolce will be holding a Shire potluck with them providing meat and assorted cordials the 9th of June at Camp Albemarle to celebrate fourty-five years of marriage.

New Business

  • Seneschale will bid on the Jan Board Meeting. If we get it we must find a site. Still have only an amorphous idea of how many and what they will need.
  • We are organizing an encampment for 20 Year. There is a registration form at the Atlantian website.
  • Pennsic preregistration should be done NOW. Encampment is "Isenfir". A motion was voted upon and passed that we use $200 Shire funds for Isenfir encampment improvements as needed.
  • Bryan has inspected Ingleside in Staunton and finds it would be a good place to hold a dance symposium sometime next spring.
  • Event of the month: Coronation in April, Atlantian 20th Year Celebration in May.

Submitted, Dolce dei Bracchi for Lucretia dei Bracchi
