POPULACE MEETING August 28, 2003 Eugenia brought the meeting to order, and after greeting two visitors whom we hope will be with us and whose names I did not get, called upon Katrina, Deputy Seneschale for the student group. She outlined a busy schedule for the first few months: A dance practice in garb in Newcomb Ballroom September 3rd, 7-10, a handcrafters devoted to sewing basics, fabric etc, one on Masks, one on Blackwork. For confirmed sched and details, see the student web site. She also said a group of students will be going to Coronation, Sept 5-7th. Chatelaine's report: No new contacts. Arts and Sciences: Lori absent, but Anne gave a summary of coming A&S. Next couple HC will be on Games Tourney. There will be, also, time TBA, a HC on liripipe hoods for both sexes. Dance: Philippe has an ambitious schedule of both old and new, easy and more advanced dances. Polyphony: First two sessions of the season will be on campus, first one in the boardroom at Newcomb the 10th, and one "just down the hall" the 24th, hoping some of our students will find singing an attractive activity. No prior experience needed. Many of us don't read music. We will likely be singing at Games Tourney. Drumming: No report. Exchequer: No change since last meeting. Financial Policy will be sent in soon. Unchronicler: Nothing new. Herald: Piera reports two devices were submitted at Pennsic. For consultation simply contact her. Webminister: Phillipe says we need new descriptions of our activities, as the old ones are out of date for contacts, times, and nearly everything. Fighting, Heavy: Philip is considering a Central War Practice early in the spring. Isenfir offers whatever aid we can. Heavy practice is every Sunday on campus. Fighting, Rapier: Gianetta is now our Rapier Marshal. Practice is Tuesdays at 6:00, on campus for the next two weeks. Both rapier and heavy practice has been enriched by participation of folks from Caer Mear and Lynchburg. Fighting, archery: Njal needs one more event to qualify as our Archery Marshal. Thrown Weapons: Has not happened this summer. Perhaps autumn. Minister of Minors: No report. Games Tourney: Progressing, but needs volunteers. Don't think you'll have to run something, just help. And remember most tasks are not all day things. We try to be certain even our folk who work have time to play. The Ponte Alto Harp and Drum folks will be with us for this. Christafana is calling for chessboards and pieces that can be loaned for the tournament, also mancala boards. She hopes to soon have the rules of tournament on the website. The limit for feast is 80, so don't delay in sending in a reservation to Dosso. Whether we set up Friday night or early Sat or a little of both is still undecided. Pennsic: Toby observes it happened, the East and her Allies won, and we have only about 48 more weeks to get ready for Pennsic XXXIII. We all think Ryan should get a Shire award for the shower trailer and full kitchen (with three sinks). A group trying to form in Lynchburg will be holding a demo Sept 13th from 10 to 4, more info in your e-mail. Let's do as much as we can to help them have a successful demo. Another group that close means more folk to play with. Submitted by Dolce.
