Minutes of July 1996 Populace Meeting

Jul 24, 1996

The meeting was sparsely attended, with David running the meeting, but business was conducted anyway.

The exchequer reported that we still have money, and the Chronicler reported that she had nothing to report. No other officers were in attendance.

The event of the month for August is going to be a Pennsic Pity Party on August 17 in Mint Springs Park in Crozet. The party will be in mundanes, and come prepared for swimming, volleyball, BBQing, etc. Bring something for a potluck dinner in the early evening.

The rest of the meeting was spent discussing the fall demo, and preparations therefore. The rest of these minutes detail what was discussed. (After the meeting, those in attendance headed over to Lord Hardwicke's to heckle Bo.)

Several methods of advertising were agreed upon. These included classified ads/community calendar ads in the following newspapers:

We also intend to submit radio Public Service Announcements to the following stations:

In addition, we agreed to post flyers (which Gio will be making) at the following locations:

A flyer-posting party is scheduled for 5:30pm on Sunday, August 25th. We'll meet in Cabell Hall Rm 118, go post flyers, then go to dinner.

We also intend to try to get event flyers printed in the newsletters of several neighboring groups, as well as posting to the Atlantia Mailing List and putting a flyer on the Web.

The activities we'd like to see for the day include fighting (rapier, and heavy if we can get some fighters), dancing, music, pike drill, individual A&S activities, and camp ball. If you can help out with or participate in any of these, please do so. And please bring anything to display that you think might entice people.

We also agreed that we need informational flyers to distribute at the demo, which should include a short description of the SCA, a calendar, and Chatelaine contact information. The usual post-demo newbie meeting will take the place of dance practice on Thursday, September 5th at 7:30pm in Lambeth Commons.

We closed by agreeing that everyone should encourage people they know/talk to in other nearby groups to attend the demo and help our efforts.
