Minutes of August 1998 Populace Meeting

August 26, 1998

Shire met in room 118 in New Cabell Hall, 7:30 . A fair number of Shirlings were there, but no students yet.

A&S officer absent, also Chalelaine. Officers reports: Herald, submissions to Kingdom doing well, some actually getting through. Exchequer, filed the 1st quarter financial report, working on the 2nd quarter. Someday we might even be working on the current one. Chronicler, proofsheet for the new Directory will be available soon. Fencing Marshal sent in a report: Fencing going sporadically. They'll be fencing on the Triangle until further notice. Our first heavy practice will be the 8th, or so my notes say. Check with Matthew on that date if you plan to attend. Toby, the fast handed one of the Shire, says juggling practice will run at the same time. If this involves the same people, I really want to see it.

Fall demo is September 13th on the Triangle. We need to be there by noon to set up.  We will be doing a demo disguised as a ethnic food festival on the downtown mall the 17th of October. We will likely be doing some food sales, so all hands who can spare the time will be needed for preparation, and a number of our folk will be out of town at Pointless Wars (old name) so we'll need everyone who can spare a few hours that day to swell the crowd.

Event of the Month is the Vyking Thyng so we can get our new folk to an event early on. Landi is going to check out the camp ground down near Lynchburg, and David will soon give us a report on site in Albemarle he has discovered.

Matthew is on the way to being qualified as our Knight Marshal.

Dance and Handcrafters will be as usual, 1st and 3rd and 2nd and 4th Thursdays. Site for dance to be announced when we get one.

Unevent is the 5th of December. We hope to bid to have it here, but must get one of our students to make arrangements.

Bryan says his gracious lady and himself are offering the farm for a Shire event sometime this fall. Will probably be titularly Celtic, and the 10th of October.

Seneschal had a petition to be submitted to the committee overseeing the polling for principality asking that we be be included in the polling. If you haven't signed it, and wish to, see Gregory soonest.

Meeting adjourned before the Populace had to stand.
