Minutes of April 1999 Populace Meeting
April 28, 1999
Shire met in room 119 in New Cabell Hall, 7:30pm.
Populace, what there was there, met as soon as our Seneschale could arrive from work
Old Business:
- As the Miniversity is being held in Isenfiri territory, and as it is fairly close,
Seneschale suggested we provide warm bodies to help out. Suggestion well-received.
- The question of whether we wish to change our status from Shire to Province was raised.
Some debate. Comments anyone?
- Toby says he will see to publicity for the Shire.
- The 4D Revel was held with great success. Had 36 attendees, nearly all the Shire. The
potluck, with some additions from Toby in the kitchen, was a board-groaning success, and
Leofric is now our Defender of Innocents.
- The consensus seems to be revive the Red Mountain Inn. To that end Dosso will buy die
blanks, $25, and among the folk in the Shire capable, we will engrave/stamp/whatever a
pattern in them for the Isenfir coinage.
- Anyone planning to go to Pennsic must register by 5/30/99. Toby says information about
the meal plan will be on the net shortly.
New Business:
- The community college suggested by College of Yarvid seems to be on hold. As we
tentatively said we would help, someone will try to get information.
- Everyone liked the site of the 4D Revel and would like to see if an event, like a games
tourney, could be held there. The only bar to this is the small amount of parking. There
are several places within a mile we probably could arrange parking. That would entail a
shuttle. Think on it.
- The Nothing But Dance event we are still tentatively planning, is still tentative
planned for a November date, possibly at Newcomb. It still needs a co-autocrat. Our
Seneschale would like to co-autocrat to gain experience, but cannot do it alone
considering the load she is now carrying for the Shire.
- The Fall Demo is scheduled for the 12th of September. Also planned for early Oct, (2nd?)
is a Shire potluck to welcome our new folks, give them something to aim at in making garb,
and give them a taste of the fun we have.
Anyone feeling there is someone in the Shire deserving honors of one type or another
should contact our Seneschale as soon as possible.
Officers' reports:
- Web Minister reports the site is slowly becoming less horribly out of
date.
- Chronicler notes that the bribe for articles or Isensayings or book
reviews is still offered. Latest date for submissions for the coming is sue, 30 May.
- Dance Master & Games Teacher Extrodinare is still
looking for a summer site. Albemarle Parks and Rec close at dark., so that's out. St. T A
is being renovated, and we haven't heard from the Wesleyan center. Anyone with a
suggestion please contact Bryan or Jebbiedo. Anastasia is doing Italian at practices,
complementing Bryan's English Country.
- Exchequer says we have almost $700 in the Shire coffers.
- Minister of Arts and Sciences says--sniffle--she will be leaving this
summer. Consequently her last handcrafters and the only one in May will be the 27th. We
will need a new MOAS. Volunteers, anyone? Her departure will be a double loss, as she is
taking with her, or he is taking her with him, Barry of nut and fruit fame. He hasn't been
with us long, but we'll sure miss him.
- Chatelaine says the Harrisonburg "display" is still
tentatively on. He hopes to get the SCA video on public access TV. Wonders if we might
volunteer for a PBS fundraiser, and has a possible publicity opportunity to do a semidemo
at the opening of a Midsummer Nights Dream showing.
Event of the month is Crown Tourney. Emerald Joust has finally announced a site,
somewhere near the coast. Seneschale suggests it be our alternative or sub Event of the
month.
Meeting adjourned.
Minutes recorded and written by Sally Kuntz.
