Minutes of May 1999 Populace Meeting
May 26, 1999
Populace, what there was there, met on the porch at Rosecroft.
Old business:
- Our Seneschale contacted Stierbach about our volunteering to help at University. Their
Seneschal said he'd forward the offer to the autocrat, but we have had no answer yet.
- Gio will see about designing a demo flyer--to announce when--for the fall demo.
- The College of Yarvid collegium, ancillium, whatever seems to still be on hold.
- Games Tourney is at a standstill until we can get dies made. The tentative site is
Newcomb, but we discussed alternate sites.
- Coins and dies were discussed. A new design for the Isenfir penny was discussed,
possibly with an Isenfir mountain on one face and an Atlantian sea-horse on the other.
Gio was going to check with the heraldic powers-that-be about the use of the
sea-horse. Toby was going to look into punching blanks at work, and Bob was awaiting
a non-stamped blank in order to proceed with getting the die blanks made.
- We still have no idea if we will go to war over Afton Mtn.
- Seneschale has sent off recommendations for honors of one sort or another for a number
of Shirlings who are long overdue for recognition.
New business:
- The Shire has sent its condolences to Queen Caitlin of Ealdomere.
- King Stephan is off to the wars in Europe. Our beloved queen, Niobe will be seeing to
the welfare of Atlantia.
- We decided we wanted to send a brag basket to Pennsic with our kingdom representative .
We are considering items to be included. If you have a craft you would like to show off,
consider making something for the basket. Deadline is Pennsic, of course.
Officers Reports:
- Web Minister, with the help of his able deputies is keeping the web
site up to date. We discussed having our own domain.
- Chronicler had nothing to report except to wonder that Shirlings don't
like cookies.
- Our Dance Master Extrodinaire has offered the lawns of Rosecroft
cottage for our summer practice. Remember the insect repellant.
- We had no report from our Heavy Marshal, as he and his lovely lady have
left the Shire. We wish them success and happiness in Caer Mear. And now we need a Heavy
Marshal. Caer Mear is hosting a Baby Seal Night on Thursdays 7:00 to 9:00. For further
info contact our Seneschale.
- No Rapier Marshal's report.
- Our Minister of Arts and Sciences is also leaving the area,
probably--likely--maybe, so we have a new MoAS, Triska. For the moment handcrafters will
meet at Bryan and Eoywin's, but Triska will be hosting handcrafters soon. Also, Toby and
Ann have volunteered to take handcrafters now and then when they get settled.
- Exchequer reports no change in the status of anything.
- Castellan reports the demo at Spotswood in Harrisonburg went much
better than expected. He and Judith of Massam have apparently allyed the principal's fears
that we are a bunch of steel carrying crazies. If they do another Medieval Feast, we will
likely be invited back. Toby also reports that he has made a nunber of contacts with
possible new folk. Before he does anything more about getting the SCA video on public
access TV, he will get a written copyright waiver.
- Herald said he had nothing to say, but was reminded we had just heard
that Dolce and Dosso's names and devices have passed. There is some question about the
spelling of Dosso's name, but basically they're home free.
Seneschale says she is looking into permission to use the archery range at UVA. A good
deal of interest has been expressed to get an archery group going in the Shire.
Event of the Month for June, Ponte Alto's Siege of Acre.
Meeting adjourned to pizza and snacks.
Minutes recorded and written by Sally Kuntz,
