Minutes of June 1999 Populace Meeting
June 23, 1999
As our Seneschale was still occupied with her new job, Toby stood in for her. Terrible
impersonation. The only similarity was his contribution of an Isensaying.
Old Business:
- Seneschale has contacted the A&S autocrat. She asked for a phone number, but Jebbie
Do hasn't heard from her.
- Further negotiations on the terms of war with Black Diamond, but no response yet.
Perhaps it's our demand that if they win they take the blasted mountain this time.
- Pennsic. Toby reports the meal plan will be serving ten preregistered, with a potential
max of twenty. Probably it will be close to fourteen.
- Seneschale asked Bryan to write a flyer for the Triangle demo for the Acorn. Gio has
agreed to do local flyers.
- Dies for coins are still unordered, but coin size has been determined, so Dosso can
order the dies next time he's in Waynesboro.
- Triska has agreed to co-autocrat NBD, which we're looking at for a Novemberish date.
Jebbie Do has still not been able to reserve Newcomb
New business:
- We discussed the possibilities of bidding on Twelfth Night, and what would be needed.
Decided as small as the Populace of the Shire is we would have to work with another group.
Officer's reports:
- Web Minister had nothing to report.
- Chronicler reports that now that she has access to exchequer records
she finds she has not been Chronicler for eleven years, but seven. It only feels like
eleven. Also, cookies are still being offered for submissions.
- Dance Master Extraordinaire reports that Marinus is planning a dance
event in February. He is attempting to get a list of dances so we will be prepared when we
go. Also, turnout has been great, and we are grateful to our most adept musician--that is,
we have only one but he is adept.
- Marshal - Again discussed the need for someone to take Hyrim's place.
And Seneschale needs your response to a suggestion of weekday rapier practice.
- Arts and Sciences - Our deputy cites improving turnout--maybe it's the
food folk are bringing--and solicits suggestions for classes we might want at
Handcrafters. Also we discussed the Pennsic gift basket. If you have a skill you
would like to show off by making something for it, contact Triska. Because Handcrafters
would come the day after Dance this month if the schedule is unchanged, we have changed
Handcrafters to the 1st of July and the 15th. This leaves the last week with only
Populace. Anyone wish a night of gaming? An extra Dance practice? Let your leadership
know.
- Exchequer says the bank account is finally tap-able. He signed the
first check in ten months, one to the Chronicler for $147 for printing and stamps for many
months. In the same period we took in $108 in subscriptions, so we're not doing badly
there especially when one realizes that printing also included the directory and postage
to mail it.
- Chatelain Toby, who looks after townies, reports we are in the C'ville
Weekly dance schedule. He's still talking to the folks who might run the SCA tape. We will
be doing a semi-demo, Celtic theme, on the downtown mall at Fridays after Five July 16th,
5:30 - 8:00. If you don't have Celtic, improvise or contact someone who might have garb to
loan. I gather it's not absolutely essential we be in Celtic garb, but preferable.
- Herald, who was left out of the list again: Not much happening, his
hands making it difficult to do much work, but he hopes to have the backlog down in the
next couple months.
Event of the Month: June, Ponte Alto Siege or Acre. July, Kingdom A&S on the 10th
in Harrisonburg.
We also had two new folk, Vince and Ginny, whose last name I didn't catch, who sat
patiently through all our verbiage. Welcome.
