Officers' Reports

David recommended strongly that the Shire make a concerted effort at recruiting this fall and that we plan and organize a strategy for getting and keeping people, as opposed to previous years where Activity Fairs and Demos have been pointless and disorganized.   To that end, he put forward a tentative fall schedule on the Isenet prior to the meeting.  It was discussed point by point at the meeting, no one seemed to have any problems with it, and it was adopted.  [See calendar below]

Event of the Month for August will be Pennsic. For September, Coronation (Sep 10-12).   Rumors abound of a Pennsic Pity Party at Gio and Donna's housesitting, hot tub-equipped location.  Date TBA.

Description

Aug 31 Student Activity Fair Gathering of student organizations at the UVa Amphitheater from 10-4. Fran will sign us up and verify what we can and need to bring.  We need a few people who are very comfortable talking to people and explaining the SCA.  The recruitment committee has several ideas for making this work well.  Toby is doing the flyers.   Contact - Toby
Sept 1 Dance Practice The final official dance practice before Coronation, not especially good for new people.  Supposedly Amalric and Caia will be in attendance to prepare for the Ball at their Coronation.  Contact - David
Sept 2 Deadline for contacting SAF signups by phone We need to phone people who sign up to remind them we exist, that they signed up, and what the next activities are. Volunteers for phoning were Toby, Karen, Trishka, Debbie Jo, and Ginny.  Contact - Toby
Sept 4 Welcome Back Revel Low key dance and dessert revel serving two purposes. 1) Those who have been gone can see everyone and gab. 2) Provide an extra dance practice prior to Coronation.  This will be for the crew that has been practicing for all these weeks.   In garb.  Contact - David
Sept 5 Fighter Practice On the Triangle.  Contact - Leofric or Nick
Sept 7 Newcomer Orientation Meeting At the Student Activities Building at UVa.  Non garb, 7:30 (Populace is asked to be there by 7:00, so we can be set up and look vaguely organized).  Bring munchies if you can. This will be the chance for the group to meet the potential new people in an informal comfortable setting that is close to First Year dorms. Requisite introductions, short discussions on the basic nuts and bolts of the SCA and the types of activities we do locally.  If you'd like to make a short "presentation" on something of interest, please contact someone on the Recruitment Committee, who are planning the agenda for the evening, again to give the appearance of organization.   Contact - Toby
Sept 9 Handcrafters Possibly at UVa, depending on perceived interest from other newcomer activities.  Contact - Trishka
Sept 10-12 Coronation of Amalric and Caia Event of the Month.  At Camp Brown, south of St Mary's City, Maryland, in the lovely Barony of Dun Carraig.  Possible event for REALLY interested new people, otherwise only for current people.
Sept 12 Fighter Practice On the Triangle  Contact - Leofric or Nick
Sept 15 Dance Practice First practice open to newcomers, focusing on the basics of dance.   Attendance of the more experienced set of Isenfiri is highly encouraged for helping and supporting the new people.  Contact - David
Sept 19 Triangle Demo Trishka is our demo-crat, Teri, Karen and David, Debbie Jo and Aimee are the assisting Shirlings to get this really organized. This will effectively be the first "event" for many of the potential new people.  Contact - Trishka
