Minutes of August 1999 Populace Meeting

August 25, 1999

It still being summer, Populace met at Rosecroft Cottage, and a great turnout we had.

First business was a report by our somewhat worn Seneschale on the War. She says it was a great war. Final headcount somewhere around 10,127. Shire headcount was 17 in camp, five out of camp. The presentation of the bonnet to Queen Niobe went well, thanks to Teri, Anne, and Rena. The Queen said something on the lines of,

"This child has had so much love from the beginning--I sometimes feel that I and he are not worthy. I feel honored by all the love shown us, and the care you have taken for my family. I thank you for the love and effort and caring that went into the making of this. I thank you,"

except it was beautifully phrased, as all our Queen's pronouncements are. The gift basket was presented to representatives for the Summits. We seem to have held our own in quantity and quality. Shirling Phillip ap Griffith, long convalescent from an encounter with a particularly unyielding dragon, was on the field for the glory of
Atlantia and won a Shark's Tooth, the only one presented this Pennsic, for courage and ferocity on the field of battle. At least one vivat for Phillip! Jebbie Do noted that the site had its problems: noise and drainage, an overage of one and an insufficiency of the other. Aside from that, it was fine.

At Pennsic the Shire met a gentle from Waynesboro whose passion is thrown weapons. He offered to be our thrown weapons marshal if we have need of one. He also has a number of acquaintances who are interested in heavy fighting, so the Shire may become a heavy Shire as well as rapier.

Event of the Month, Coronation, of course. A large number of Shirlings will be going. It should be a great coronation.
