Minutes of September 1999 Populace Meeting
September 22, 1999
Populace meeting started at a Scadian 7:30 in room 119 of New Cabell Hall. Our
Seneschale having been kept at her shop, Toby conducted the meeting.
Old Business
- We have decided to purchase enough 20ga. sheet pewter to make a thousand coins. That's
roughly a hundred dollars, and a couple folk have offered to contribute toward it.
- Our Seneschale has found that award recommendations must be renewed with each reign so
she's resending the latest bunch.
- Hearing no objection to the request by Rencester to accede to their request they be
allowed to start a new group, Debbie Jo sent a letter of approval to the Incipient
Something or Other in Rencester so they can proceed.
- The Welcome Back Revel was a success even though only two of the folk who returned from
summer attended.
- The Triangle Demo went really well thanks to Bryan and Trishka and all the folk who
attended to swell the crowd. We have the names of eleven folk interested enough to ask for
more information. We plan to send thank-yous to Caer Mear, Black Diamond, Ponte Alto and
the Greenskeeper, the first three for folk, the last for the use of the bathrooms right
across the street.
- We've given up doing Nothing But Dance for this fall because there is literally no place
available that can provide the site we need.
New Business
- We've decided to move Populace meeting to the fourth Tuesday, as opposed to the fourth
Wednesday, starting next month. Dance has been moved back to Thursday starting the 7th of
October. That will give us something on Thursday every week except the odd fifth one and
make planning much easier.
- We are also adding a new group, Fiber Arts, meeting first and third Tuesdays starting
the first Tuesday in October. First meeting will be at Anne's, directions forthcoming I
have no doubt.
- We decided on a 20th of Nov. Dessert and Dance Revel if at all possible. Anne
volunteered to be autocrat. This will be our End of Year Revel, as no other good
times exist prior to the end of the year.
- Still planning a twenty-fifth anniversary event for sometime in the spring. Trishka is
autocrat.
- The point was raised that the Shire needs to consider fundraising, and Anne pointed out
that we still need badges. She suggested that the Fiber Arts group stitch Isenfir badges
(on material she will donate) to be sold to the populace for $5 each, proceeds to go to
the Shire.
Officers Reports
- Web Minister reports that the web site is getting better and better.
- Chronicler announced we will have a new one sometime in the near
future: Teri (Lucretzia the Courtesan) -- who can read and write -- so beware what you
say.
- Dance Master Extraordinare says dance is going well, and the Shire will
now begin practicing the dances for the Revels at the Inns of Court in February. We have
no permanent site yet so we will be upstairs in New Cabell Hall, room 337, until further
notice. He suggested and the Populace concurred that we do something especially nice to
thank Christ Episcopal Church for their help in supplying sites at the last moment. He
suggested we provide the labor (cooking and serving) for a feast, as well as entertainment
(music and dancing, maybe storytelling) for the church that they can use as a fundraiser.
- Minister of Arts and Sciences reports...
- Her deputy at Piedmont (Teri) is requesting a demo there as there are a number of
interested folk.
- The question of a demo at Fridays at Five this coming Friday will be discussed by
e-mail.
- She's suggesting the occasional fifth Thursday be used for something--Revel, Music,
A&S and such. No decision was made.
- Exchequer says we have about $525 in working funds, barely enough to
stage an event.
- Herald and Marshals absent so no reports.

- October (8-10th) - Kingdom Crusades in Maryland
- November (20th) - Dance & Dessert Revel in Isenfir (right here at home!!!)
